Snapshots from the 10th Boundary Walk .....

Firstly,

thank you to Julie and Stuart our wonderful organisers!

Now, the walk ...

9.45 miles taking 5 hours 3 minutes!  We think it took slightly longer this year due to a larger group of 68 walkers (including 18 newbies) and, being later in the month, we noticed the extra crop growth which slowed us down and, of course, we missed Eddie our route master!

However, the weather was with us and it was a beautiful sunny morning as we all met at the Pinnacle to sign our names in the book and receive our instructions from Julie ...

at the start, the youngest bounder, Erin (7 years) was traditionally swung over the water's edge for luck ...

the height of the crops was a real challenge for some of us ...

greatly appreciated refreshments at the most southerly point ...

we were all flagging a little here ...

there was always a helping hand ...

And finally,

the presentation ribbon!

And for all the Founder Bounders ....  Julie, Alice, Emilly and Penny have completed all ten walks!   Take a look at these pictures from the first walk kindly provided by Penny ...

A big thank you ...

to all the Villagers who helped with the annual spring clean of the Church and grounds.  The Church is looking lovely and the grounds are neat and tidy!  Well, at least they were until the high winds on Saturday night blew a tree down!  Oh dear - what timing!

10th Bourton Parish Boundary Walk ...

will take place on Rogation Sunday, 25th May 2014.  The walk is approximately 9 miles.  We meet at the memorial pinnacle at
8.45 am for a 9 am prompt start.

As usual, the walk will take place whatever the weather and it might be tough going as most of the walk is not on public footpaths.  Thanks to the kind permission of local landowners, we have the unique opportunity to walk previously un-admitted land around our Parish Boundary.

Afterwards there will be some much needed refreshments in the Village Hall.  A light lunch will be provided and a ribbon presentation and raffle held.

Unfortunately, as the walk takes place on private farmland no dogs are allowed.

As it is the 10th anniversary of the walk this year, Julie Anger is organising t-shirts (white with the Bounders logo on the front) which can be purchased for around £6 each.  Please contact Julie (01793 784023) if you would like to order one.

Parishioners are warmly invited ...

to the Parish Council Annual Assembly at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 3 June 2014 in the Village Hall.  This is your opportunity to hear what has been happening in the parish over the last year.

In particular, we would like to update you on Swindon’s Local Plan which includes 8000 houses between Bourton and Sainsbury’s and also the Vale’s Local Plan which proposes over 20,000 houses in the Vale in the next 20 years including 2000 in this end of the Vale.  Both developments will obviously have an enormous impact on the A420 which is already at capacity in this area at peak times.

As is the usual custom, the Village Hall AGM will take place just prior to this meeting starting at 7.00 pm.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Ride and Stride 2014

This year's Ride and Stride event will take place on Saturday 13th September. Last year a group of Bourton villagers enjoyed a walk round Oxford, visiting churches and college chapels en route. This year they will be getting on their bikes and visiting churches in the Oxfordshire countryside. You are very welcome to join them or if you prefer to walk, take a look at the website for more ideas www.ocht.org.uk
For more details and a sponsor form, please contact Sue on 782066.

Just a couple of items ...

Next Church service is this Saturday, 3 May at 10 am.  Coffee and biscuits following the service.

CHURCH SPRING CLEAN!

Spring Clean 2013

The annual spring clean of the Church and grounds will take place on Saturday, 10 May at 10 am.  If you have a couple of hours to spare that morning please pop along and lend a hand.  Coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided!

10th BOURTON BOUNDARY WALK

2013 Boundary Walk
A merry bunch of villagers will be beating the bounds on Sunday, 25 May led by Julie and Stuart Anger.  The walk leaves promptly at 9 am from the Village Memorial Pinnacle.  It's the 10th anniversary of the walk so please come along and help make it an extra special occasion!  Usual refreshments in the Village Hall afterwards with ribbon presentation!

And finally,

As you will have probably heard, dear Dennis and Sue Offer will shortly be leaving the Village.  As you probably also know, Dennis is our Church Warden and his leaving means that we are looking for a new person to step into that role.  If this is something you feel you are able to do, please speak to Dennis or the Rev Richard Hancock.

Dennis has asked me if I would send our Bourton news to Elaine Ware to be included in the Shrivenham monthly magazine.  I'm happy to do this, so if you have anything you would like included please let me have it before 17th of each month.

Many thanks,

Vanessa Swann
